Why springs break in Michigan
A spring is rated for a number of cycles, and every winter morning takes one. Cold steel snaps more readily, and most of the springs we replace go on the first hard freeze.

Common questions
They were installed together and have the same cycles on them. Replacing one leaves the other a few weeks from breaking, and then you pay for a second trip.
Please don’t. The spring carries the door’s weight; without it the door can drop and the opener can’t safely lift it either.
